As some of you may know, February is the Everest Challenge month. Wasootch Ridge is a fitting finale hike to end the 2026 challenge.
This is a great hike for building fitness and offers steep strength building hills and amazing views of the mountains around Nakiska. It is a popular trail at all times of the year.
Trail Rating: OT4 - Winter Conditions.
Distance: 11.5 km round trip
Elevation Gain: 850+ meters

A slow but steady pace. Please ensure you’re fit enough for an estimated 5 to 6 hour round trip. We’ll stay together as a group - pace = slowest hiker

A Conservation pass is required to park at provincial parks and public use lands in Kananaskis Country and the Bow Valley region.
Carpooling is voluntary. We can meet at Shouldice or at the trailhead (trailhead at approx. 9:30).
Let me know in the RSVP questions if you are meeting at the trailhead or Shouldice.
Carpool etiquette: Be respectful of drivers. Don't eat in the car without asking. Don't soil upholstery or carpets. Bring bags etc. to contain dirty footwear and clothes. Please be aware of odours - perfume, food, etc.
The suggested gas share ⛽ for carpooling is Zone 2 - $15 per passenger.

REQUIRED: (Gear ⚙⚙ & Supplies)
Warm hiking boots or trail runners
Hiking crampons or micro-spikes.
Appropriate clothing (mid-layer, wind shell, gloves, headgear, etc. - you’ll be above the tree line for a bit.
Pack to carry your stuff
First-aid kit
Bear spray
Gaiters
Headlamp (fully charged or new batteries)
Cash for carpooling
Food and hydration adequate for the effort.

WAIVER:
As per the new policy for waivers, the waiver form will be signed at the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this event. You will also be asked for the name and phone number of an emergency contact. Please come prepared with this information.
Your participation in this event means you have read the waiver and by signing up for this event you have accepted the waiver. If you have stated "no" in your profile you will not be accepted to participate. You are fully aware that organizers are not professional guides and you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being.
IMPORTANT: You are fully prepared with proper gear and you are physically fit to do this hike with the group.
