Overnighter up Cataract Creek, just to get things going and re-dial in gear for this season. Training event for trips later this year. Not for slowpokes. Random camping, no facilties, bring a trowel. You'll need a bear canister, ursack or do a hang (mandatory, no bear safety no go). Bring a small backpacking saw to help process firewood. No saw, no firewood no night heat. Sign up only if you are firm. Most of the trail is exposed, bring lots of sunscreen and shade. I might even pack an umbrella if hot and sunny. Note, I tend not to stop much and walk faster as I have a light pack. Be prepared to snack and drink on the move, practicing for through hikes.

Expect any kind of weather conditions including cold conditions. There will be no shared equipment. You're expected to be self sufficient. If you've never random camped before, good opportunity to try things out.

Distance: Approx 7 Km one way.
Elevation Gain: 150 meters one way.
Event Pace: 3 hr about hike in

Meal planning: 1 dinner and 1 breakfast. We'll be stopping over at a nearby town on the way back for lunch.

Your backpack should not weigh more than 30 lbs/13.5kg all in, including food and water. The lighter the better. My pack is probably going to be well under 20 lbs. Gone are the days when I used to be a pack mule.

We'll should preferably carpool given gas prices these days and to avoid people getting lost. Suggested car pool is $20. Site will be about 2 hrs drive south of the city. There will be about 10km of gravel road driving. I'm definitely driving. We'll be de-camping just after a light breakfast and heading to to a nearby town for lunch after. If you can't do all activities please don't sign up. No cell reception where we are going.

Will need a minimum of three persons for this to be a go else I might as well solo it. RSVP only if you are firm.

The event host reserves the right to not allow participants on the event if they are not fit enough or are not a fit for the group.

Any questions let me know.

Required equipment:
- Bear Spray
- Backpacking trowel
- Bear canister, Ursack or do a hang (bring hanging gear, do not rely on others)
- Small backpacking saw
- A lightweight backpack total weight not more than 30lbs. Less is more.
- Usual Backpacking Equipment Not going to need everything on this list but its a good place to start. The lighter the better. With my ultralight pack setup, I'll be having a day hike compared to traditional backpack setups.

This is a fun anything goes trip. If you are uptight about stuff, this is not be the trip for you. If you can't do all activities, this event is also not for you. Sorry no dogs. We'll carpool from town in the south. Gas Fee contribution: $30.00 per person from Calgary. Note there is no cell reception where we are going.
