ADU & tiny house bike tour

Come explore a few very different ways small homes can be added to Portland properties—all by bike!
We’ll begin at a custom, detached ADU that I designed and built. Before the ride, I’ll lead a short introductory class about accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and tiny houses on wheels (THOWs), including how they differ, where they may be allowed and some of the opportunities and challenges involved in creating them.
We’ll then tour the ADU, talk about what went into the project and answer questions about design, permitting, construction, costs and rental possibilities.
From there, we’ll ride together to another property where we’ll tour:
• A shipping-container ADU—the first prefab/site-built combination ADU completed in Portland
• A newly built basement-conversion ADU
• The future location of a tiny house on wheels
This is meant to be an informal, approachable class and tour. You don’t need to be an ADU expert—just bring your curiosity, your questions and a bike in safe working condition.
Please bring a helmet, water and anything you need to ride comfortably. We’ll begin at the first ADU and finish at the final tour location, so plan accordingly.

Ride is 7 miles end to end with a little detouring to pass by some other examples. We will primarily be on neighborhood greenways and side streets.
