About us

The Michael Smerconish Mingle Project isn’t another echo chamber. Ideas and conversations from all perspectives are encouraged and welcomed.

This group is built on a simple premise: it’s a lot harder to dismiss people and their opinions once you've met, in person. You'll find people who are informed, opinionated, and not afraid to engage. You'll find people who want to engage outside of politics and simply hang out with other living, breathing folks.

So yes, some events will lean into political discussions, talking current events, cultural issues, and the stuff people argue about online. But just as often, we’re going to step away from mere “talking points” and actually talk to each other. Coffee meetups, hikes, bowling, maybe even roller skating if you’re brave enough to try. Turns out, people are a lot more interesting when they’re not performing for an audience.

We’re also going to deliberately mix things up with other Meetup groups. Not every event will revolve around politics or even come close to it. We're going to broaden the room, change the dynamic, and see what happens when people connect first and debate later.

Here’s where you come in: this shouldn't be a spectator sport. If you’ve got an idea for an event, bring it. If you’re willing to co-host, even better. The best version of this group won’t come from one organizer it’ll come from people who share their passions.

We’re looking to build a few reliable anchors such as a standing Coffee and Conversation Mingle every 3rd Saturday or a rotating weekly happy hour, or regular social outings that people can count on. Consistency builds community with everything else building off that.

If you’re ready to show up, engage with each other, and be open to the possibility that a good conversation might just start over something as simple as a cup of coffee—or a terrible bowling game.

Welcome to the Mingle Project!
