Fun, Fitness, Friendship! Smith Mountain Lake Walking (Hiking) Club (AVA) is a chapter of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) -- a nonprofit network of local clubs in the US and 26 countries. A volksmarch can either be a leisurely walk or a strenuous hike, depending on local terrain and what club members want to do. We follow a preset trail thru a scenic or historic area, often with trail directions and a map. Events are non-competitive and participants travel at their own pace, making it an excellent recreational activity for the entire family. We have three events: 1. Traditional. Walk pre-marked trails and travel during a time window). 2. DIY or Year-Round Events, which are self-guided; 3. Guided Group Walks. To defray AVA National Office expenses, guests pay $2. Those wanting AVA walk credit pay $4. Please bring correct change in cash. We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Annual dues are $10.
