See Downtown Rocky Mount VA! Walk 5 km (3 mi)

Walk scenic and historic downtown Rocky Mount, the county seat of Franklin County. Those coming from Franklin County (Westlake) can meet Ron at New York Pizza, 13300 Booker T Washington Hwy, Moneta, VA 24121 at 9:30 am to carpool. Look for Ron and his gray Toyota. We will leave promptly! Please text or email Ron if you want to carpool. Or meet at 10 am at the Rocky Mount Visitor Center in the Old Train Depot. If not staying for lunch, drive yourself (we haven't yet decided where to eat).
The 5 km starts at the Caboose, and winds thru town, passing the Courthouse, Civil War Monument, the old cemetery, interesting shops, colorful murals and other sites. The old cemetery has a scenic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and you will see why it's called Rocky Mount! Most of the trail is on sidewalks, but portions are along a road. There is about 200 feet of elevation gain.
The walk cost is $2 to defray admin expenses, but those wanting AVA walk credit pay $4 total (correct change appreciated). Those willing to do 10 AVA walks will get a free new Walkers Kit, value $21!
