What we're about

Welcome to SoCal LGBTQ+ Explorers. Are you looking to do fun, accessible activities, enjoy genuine interactions with like-minded LGBTQ+ folks, and maybe even make a new friend? If so, we're very glad you found our group!

Explorers is an LGBTQ+ social group that meets weekly for casual outdoor and indoor activities including hiking, climbing, and kayaking. Events are held weekly in Southern California, primarily in the Long Beach/Los Angeles area. The group is open to all folks who identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally. Group activities are free unless stated otherwise. The group has no affiliation with any business or organization.

This is a non-scene and community- and friendship-oriented group. SoCal Explorers was founded out of a desire for more meaningful interactions and connections among folks within the LGBTQ+ community who share an interest in outdoor activities. All of our events are inclusive, welcoming, and safe spaces, and attendees come from a range of identities within the LGBTQ+ umbrella. We plan a range of events, including two ongoing newbie-oriented events every month.

If this is your first time joining the group, know that organizers make a special effort to ensure newcomers feel included. We can't wait to meet you!

RULES & EXPECTATIONS

  • RSVPs are mandatory for all attendees.
  • Out of consideration for the rest of the group, plan to arrive at events on time. If you are expecting to be late, please reach out to the organizer and let them know.
  • Space is limited. Only RSVP if you intend to come. If you have RSVPed and your plans change, remember to update your RSVP status.
  • If you have to change your RSVP status, please do so with at least one day's notice. This will give other attendees on the event waitlist enough time to plan to attend the event in your place.
  • When scheduled events are at capacity, we contact attendees in advance to remind them to update their RSVP status. If you still happen to be on the waitlist on the day of the event, please consider joining another one of our upcoming events.
  • Members who repeatedly confirm attendance, fail to change their RSVP status, and do not show up for events will be removed from the group after three strikes.
  • You may notice when RSVPing to events that there is no option to bring a +1. This is intentional. Bringing a friend (or two) along to events is A-OK, however, we ask that all who intend to join an event individually RSVP. This assists in the event we need to conduct contact tracing.
  • If you choose to join the group for a meal, please note that split checks are not available. The following forms of payment are accepted: cash, Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle. If you choose to use a payment app, the event coordinators will let you know your total + tax & tip and you may pay them directly. Please expect to spend at least $18 after tax & tip.
  • This is a community- and friendship-oriented group. We ask that members conduct themselves accordingly. Aggression towards other members will not be tolerated.
  • Organizers ask that you communicate any specific requirements or considerations in advance of events.
  • Organizers welcome direct feedback from members. We are always willing to hear your concerns and will strive to be open and flexible in our responses.
  • Organizers are human beings, and so will occasionally make mistakes. We ask for your grace and understanding.
  • By participating in group activities, you are responsible for your preparedness and well-being and will hold no one else liable in case of injury or mishap. You agree not to hold Organizers or any other members responsible for any injuries, mishaps, or any other situation that may happen at a planned event.
  • We encourage members to follow local health ordinances. Organizers cannot guarantee participants are vaccinated and are not active carriers of COVID-19. Any liability in this regard ultimately lies with the participant.
  • Participants will be invited to take part in group photos which will be shared on this Meetup page and on social media. Taking part in a group photo is optional, just let the organizers know in advance if you do not want to be photographed.
