*Beltane is one of the major seasonal festivals in traditional pagan (especially Celtic) belief. It marks the midpoint between spring and summer, usually celebrated around May 1st.

At its core, Beltane is about life reaching full expression—fertility, passion, growth, and the visible return of warmth and abundance after winter.

1. The peak of fertility and creation
Beltane is the time when the earth is fully awake and actively creating life. Crops are growing, animals are breeding, and everything is moving toward fullness.
In many traditions, this is symbolized by the union of divine forces—often framed as a sacred marriage between a god and goddess, representing masculine and feminine energies coming together to create life.

2. A thinning of the veil
Like Samhain on the opposite end of the year, Beltane is a time when the boundary between worlds was thinner.
But instead of death and ancestors, Beltane’s “otherworld” connection leans toward nature spirits, fair folk, and wild energies.
3. Fire as protection and blessing
Fire is central. In many ceremonies, huge bonfires were lit, and people (and livestock) would pass between them or near them.
This wasn’t just symbolic—it was believed to cleanse, protect, and bless for the coming season. Fire represented both destruction of what lingered from winter and ignition of new life. There will be a fire in our ceremonial Caldron

4. Protection of home and land
Because this is a liminal time (a threshold), celebrants practice protective magic—decorating homes with flowers, greenery, and sometimes hawthorn or rowan to guard against harmful spirits or bad luck.

5. Celebration of pleasure and vitality
Unlike the restraint of winter, Beltane openly embraces joy, sexuality, and physical life. Dancing, feasting, and Love are part of the tradition—as aligned with the natural order.
