SoCal Climbing BIPOC & Allies @ Point Dume, Malibu 1 pm Sun 11/7

Details
SoCal Climbing's BIPOC & Allies subgroup is climbing at Point Dume this Sunday! All BIPOC members and allies are invited! BIPOC stands for black, indigenous, and other people of color. Point Dume has TR routes from 5.6 to 5.10d, many of which begin in the sand. Bring your climbing ropes, lockers, and long TR slings if you have them. The weather (https://bit.ly/pointdumeweather) is predicted to be in the low 60's so you'll want to wear pants and a jacket. Social distancing and masks are recommended. My mask will be a yellow bandana. If you're unwell please stay home.
In addition to climbing, Point Dume is also a great place to see pelicans, seals, dolphins, and whales. It's also been featured in countless movies, television shows, and commercials. At Point Dume I've seen a mother + baby whale, a snake eat a lizard, little scorpions, and once helped rescue a baby elephant seal. SoCal Climbing is also the club that installed all the TR anchors (2016).

--- LIABILITY RELEASE ---
Climbing is a deadly activity. Attendees are responsible for ensuring their own safety through their training, skills, and sound judgment. No one at this meetup is guaranteed to be certified, trained, or otherwise qualified to ensure your safety and you may get killed or seriously injured. Your attendance at this meetup signifies you agree to take responsibility for your own safety and to not hold this Meetup group, its organizers, its hosts, or its members liable for any injuries to your person or property that may occur even if it is their fault. If you want your safety guaranteed you'd need to hire a professionally certified and insured guide and not attend this meetup. CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK!
--- BEGINNERS ---
You'll need climbing shoes. These can be purchased at stores like REI and Gear Coop. You'll need a harness as well but may be able to borrow this.
--- CLIMBING ---
Point Dume is all top rope, so bring your extra long slings, locking carabiners, and ropes. A few quickdraws per rope are needed for directionals in order to minimize swinging and keep your climber on route. The face routes begin in sand so tarps/rope bags are good to have. Face routes are slab crimping 5.6 - 5.9. Routes on the Oceanside are close to vertical 5.10b - 5.10d.
--- PARKING ---
The regular parking lot is closed due to the road being washed out. You'll need to park above on the street at Grasswood Ave & Cliffside Drive and then hike in.

--- MEETUP LEADERS NEEDED ---
We need more climbers to lead meetups! Must be safe and like people. The idea is you pick a day/time and a crag or gym and then invite people to meet you climb with you. You're not guiding anyone. Attendees must be self-sufficient and be responsible for their own safety. Can restrict attendance based on things like gear, experience, skills (e.g. must be able to lead 5.9, must have a rope, must bring a bouldering pad, ect), and women-only meetups are great! Message me to learn more.
