Details

Join us on Saturday May 11th at Stoney Point for some climbing rescue practice. We will be practicing things like belay takeovers (weighted and unweighted), climber pickoffs, and ascending to the climber. These soft skills are an important tool for all climbers to have but are easily forgotten without practice. Attendees should be comfortable belaying with both manual and assisted braking devices, working knowledge of different types of friction hitches and when to apply each one, and have some kind of rappelling experience. Beginners are welcome to join us as well. We will meet by the horse stables near boulder 1 at 7am and start hiking to Mozart's wall at 7:20am. We will be done by 12pm. If you RSVP and cannot make it, please mark yourself as not going to allow others the opportunity to attend as this meetup has a limited amount of people who can attend. Attendance will be taken and those who RSVP and don't go will be marked as a no-show.
Gear:
you will need a UIAA-approved climbing-rated harness, climbing shoes, helmet, ATC, some kind of assisted braking device such as a grigri, 4 lockers, prusik cord, and a 120cm sling. Feel free to bring ropes and anchor material.
Liability:
Climbing is inherently dangerous. You are responsible for your own safety and knowing your physical limits. By attending, you do not hold this meetup group or its organizer responsible for any injuries to you or your property that may occur. Any and all advice given by anyone at this meetup is strictly their opinion and is not in any way a substitute for hiring a professional guide. Everyone is expected to create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for all.
