ONLINE: “Schopenhauer’s Influences: Hinduism & Buddhism”

Details
This is the Saturday afternoon meeting for Socrates Cafe. It's online. We meet every couple Saturdays.
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) was a German philosopher, who developed an atheistic ethical system (no religion needed). He was influenced by Immanuel Kant and his transcendental ideas, but also by Eastern philosophies. In Stoic and Buddhist discussions, we remember Schopenhauer because he viewed human desire as a source of suffering. To Schopenhauer, the way to end suffering was to contemplate the aesthetics of the world (to be immersed in the senses). This week, we will review his interests in Hinduism and Buddhism (Wikipedia article).
Our meeting starts with an introduction or a dialogue, and then proceeds to an open discussion. You don't need to read any materials in advance.
