Speakers
Dr. Igor Gomes Menezes
Presentation: What can Machine Learning algorithms tell us about our behaviour?
Igor has several years experience in data science and has become deeply interested in the utilisation of machine learning and big data algorithms in the fields of people analytics and data mining. His research interests also include multidimensional item response theory, computerised adaptive testing, and Bayesian analysis.
He has worked as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge and is currently Senior Lecturer at Lincoln International Business School.
Dr. Brent Mittelstadt
Presentation: AI Ethics
Dr. Brent Mittelstadt is a Research Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute and University College London. He is also a Research Associate at the University of Oxford. His research addresses the ethics of algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence and data analytics (‘Big Data’). Over the past five years his focus has broadly been on the ethics and governance of emerging information technologies, including a special interest in medical applications.
Dr. Mittelstadt’s research focuses on ethical auditing of algorithms, including the development of standards and methods to ensure fairness, accountability, transparency, interpretability and group privacy in complex algorithmic systems. His work addresses norms and methods for prevention and systematic identification of discriminatory and ethically problematic outcomes in decisions made by algorithmic and artificially intelligent systems.
