Science Cafe NH presents an evening on ticks, tick‑borne illnesses, and staying safe in the outdoors, with a focus on southern New Hampshire and the wider New England region. The discussion will cover the main tick species found here and where they’re most likely to turn up in yards, forests, and hiking trails, as well as other tick‑borne threats beyond Lyme disease. Attendees will learn to recognize early warning signs for adults, children, and pets, when to seek medical or veterinary care, and practical strategies for preventing bites through clothing choices, repellents, safe tick removal, and yard management, all in the context of a changing climate that is lengthening tick seasons and expanding their range across the region.
3 panelists are lined up:
Dr. Julia Greenspan, ND, founding medical director of Greenhouse Natural Medicine in Amherst, NH, will bring her clinical expertise in treating complex chronic and tick‑borne illnesses, focusing on integrative, functional approaches that support immune function and long‑term resilience for adults and children alike.
David Hunter, facilitator of the Greater Manchester Lyme Disease Support Group, will share patient and advocacy perspectives, highlighting lived experience with Lyme and related conditions and the importance of local support networks for navigating diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Together, they will help you translate science into everyday practices that let you enjoy hiking, gardening, and outdoor family time in southern NH and New England more safely.
Check back for additional panelists.
