About us
This is an Athens-based discussion group inspired by the concept of Socrates Café: people getting together to examine a philosophical question through conversation.
At the beginning of each meeting, anyone can propose a question they find genuinely difficult or interesting. We choose one, hear briefly from the person who proposed it about why they asked it, and then spend the rest of the meeting examining it.
You don’t need a background in philosophy or any preparation. This isn’t a philosophy class, and it’s not meant to be a debate where everyone picks a position and tries to win.
The idea is to stay with one question long enough to get beyond our immediate opinions. What do we mean by the words we’re using? Are our arguments consistent? What assumptions are we making? Can we find examples that challenge them?
