Learn to write, compile, and run simple Java programs for fun and profit. This will be a gentle, hands-on introduction. If you want to participate in the hands-on portion, please bring a laptop and your favorite source code editing tool or IDE.

• The Java ecosystem: popular libraries, IDE's, alphabet soup of related technologies
• Oracle Java vs. openjdk
• javac, java, etc.
• Java Hello World!
• import, CLASSPATH issues - how does the virtual machine find libraries?
• Exception handling
• Object-oriented features (quick overview)
• Hands-on exercises
