Details

P is for Panel? P is for PGaF?

Mike Shoup, Justin Lang, and David L. Willson will deliver a hands-on workshop in which you will experience the beauty and utility of metrics-based monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana, and friends.

Wouldn't it be great if you could know when resources are over-provisioned or under-provisioned? Wouldn't it be great if your monitoring system called you before your customers did? Wouldn't it be great if you knew exactly how many 400s per hour your web-site was producing? Wouldn't it be great if you could actually prove that that app you know is leaky, is leaky? We might not get to all that, but we will get to all this...

Objectives (what you'll do):

  • Use an exporter to publish metrics like processor, memory, storage and network use, availability and response time.
  • Use Prometheus to collect those metrics into a TSDB (time-series database)
  • Use Alertmanager to alert sysadmins to problems before customers even notice them.
  • Use Grafana to pull metrics from Prometheus and build a beautiful dashboard of systemic health.

Requirements (what you need to bring):

  • A Web browser
  • An SSH client
  • Headphones or a headset

This is a hybrid class. When registering, please comment whether you'll be attending in-person or online.
