Cloud Computing Fundamentals

Cloud Computing Fundamentals

Details

Our Cloud Computing Fundamentals class will provide an opportunity for students to learn cloud computing by building a working, scale-out, multi-tier web app.

Students will start by standing up a monolithic web app. They will then separate the persistent data store from the app using database services from a cloud provider. Finally, students will make their app fault tolerant and horizontally scalable. In doing so, they will learn:

  • Users and roles
  • Compute instances
  • Security and access (SSH)
  • Database-as-a-Service
  • Load balancing
  • Auto-scaling
  • Regions, zones, and fault tolerance

This curriculum will cover the traditionally-defined core components of computing fundamentals - storage, network, and compute - in the cloud.
