'U' is for Unicode & UTF-8

What are those? If you've
-- seen them and thought, "I wonder what those are about?"
-- fumbled a little with them and said, "I should really go back and get a grasp on what those are about."
-- worked to wrap your head around what they're about, but failed.
then you're ... well ... just like every other programmer you know. For most of your life, the software industry and its customers were American. ASCII did the trick. For us, byte equalled char(acter).

Now, not so much. Programming languages you use, like Python and C, have even changed to let them wander the wider world.

It'll be fun to finally get a 30,000-foot -- yes, 9,000 meter -- view of I18N whats and whys. When you hit it, this'll help.

Prerequisites? You need to be able to
-- tolerate Python, because that's what my code examples will be
-- have heard of C
-- delight in the unexpected

Bring a Linux box or something like it, even if it's just a way to get to the Google cloud shell. I bet you're going to want to play with stuff.

The rally track will be איין מאל https://tinyurl.com/5hx2y92a
by The Klezmatics.

2-hour, hybrid class, $16.
