MAD-PGaf Online: Monitoring, Alerting, and Dashboards

Details

Monitoring, Alerting, and Dashboards with Prometheus, Grafana, and friends (MAD-PGaf)

Never let it crash. When it crashes, un-crash it before the users notice anything. But, how? With MAD!

If you need MAD, or if you have MAD and want an alternative to compare to, this class will show you how to set that up, how to prevent crashes by anticipating failures, and how to discover crashes before your users.

This class is for you if you:

  • have real servers
  • have practice servers
  • have other devices you want to monitor/measure, for whatever reason

Use exporters to export metrics. Use Prometheus to collect metrics into a TSDB (Time-Series Database). Use Alertmanager to send alerts based on rules. Use Grafana to visualize and correlate time-series'. Use Loki to aggregate logs.

All this and more in this delivery of MAD-PGaf.

Objectives:

  1. Deploy and use Prometheus, Grafana, Node Exporter, and Loki
  2. Maybe some other exporters
  3. Learn the Three MAD Laws

Requirements:

  1. A machine, preferably Linux

Venue:
This is an online only event. We use Big Blue Button for our online classroom.

The rally track for this event could be "Every Breath You Take" by The Police, "Eye in The Sky" by the Alan Parsons Project, or "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. Class will start when the rally track, perhaps thankfully, ends.
