Who are the speakers, and what will you learn?

✅ Radu Ciucu - R&D Engineer & Tech Entrepreneur

Radu is a published researcher and an award-winning developer, having worked in the European Space Technology and Research Center at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands, providing an innovative approach to critical infrastructure and R&D. Radu is a Research Assistant at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and a serial tech startup entrepreneur having raised funding and grants over 2m€. He has completed programs at The London School of Economics for Business Administration and MIT for AI in HealthCare.

In his presentation, Radu will discuss how democratizing data in The Space Industry paints a clear picture of change management and provides actionable results.

✅ Horia Cucu - Speech Researcher, Co-Founder & CEO at Zevo Tech

Horia Cucu was born in Braşov, Romania. He received his Ph.D. in electronics and telecom from the University Politehnica of Bucharest in 2011, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor. In this position, he authored over 75 scientific papers in international conferences and journals, served as the project director for 7 research projects, and contributed as a researcher to 10 other research grants.

He founded and leads Zevo Technology, a speech analytics startup. His research interests include machine/deep learning and artificial intelligence in speech technologies. Horia was awarded the Romanian Academy Prize “Mihail Drăgănescu,” in 2016, for outstanding research contributions in spoken language technology, after developing the first large-vocabulary automatic speech recognition systems for the Romanian language.

Everyone is getting used to interacting with speech-based assistants, intelligent chat-bots and voice-based IVR systems. But what is behind the scenes? How are these solutions developed, and what are the main challenges?

“Speech technologies - from research to production” will present the challenges in resource acquisition, speech variability, development, and adaptation for speech-to-text systems. Horia will discuss the various deep neural network architectures used today in speech-to-text and pinpoint their advantages and drawbacks. Zevo Technology’s solutions, such as speech dictation, speech transcription, and text-to-speech, will also be presented.

Zevo Technology is a Romanian speech analytics start-up that integrates state-of-the-art speech technologies, such as automatic speech and speaker recognition, text-to-speech synthesis, and speech emotion recognition, in various commercial applications.
