GUESTS WELCOME
Join us at the Glenwood Arts Cinema for this annual event:
Mafia and True Crime Film Fest
Inaugural film this year is "Kansas City Murder Factory," a thoughtful documentary about the current murder epidemic in KC.
Tickets $10 if purchased ahead, $12 day of the show
ABOUT THE FILM:
"According to the KCMO Police Department Homicide report, last year KC had 144 homicide cases. According to the FBI, Missouri has the highest rank of black homicide victimization in the nation. The film employs an observational form of filmmaking, along with interviews, reenactments, and newsreel footage, to paint a clear picture of KC’s problem. Mike B. Rollen (director) shot over 170 hours of unbelievably heart-wrenching footage, including the funeral service of a 14-year-old gunned down just blocks from his home, an eyewitness account to a 2008 double homicide, and public anti-crime community events, including public forums, town hall meetings, and prayer vigils. He presents the struggles and challenges of organizations and individuals trying to decrease violent crime in Kansas City. The film also includes compelling commentaries from KC's top spoken word artists, which adds emotion to the film and the city’s problems."
We can meet for a light dinner at 5:45pm at Dewey's Pizza, then move to the theater at 6:45 pm to watch the film. Meet in the theater lobby if you can't/don't want to join us for dinner.
Look for the "SOL Meetup Group" sign at restaurant and in lobby.
Post a comment if you would like to carpool from midtown KCMO.
