Reception for all at 5:30
https://kclibrary.org/events/community-conversation-porgy-and-bess-context
For more than 90 years, Porgy and Bess and its songs, such as “Summertime,” have resonated deeply with audiences, telling the fictional story of a 1920s Black community in Charleston, South Carolina. The beloved opera has also raised questions about who creates art, how people are represented, and what impact it leaves behind. Panelists include the Lyric Opera’s conductor Michael Ellis Ingram and Howard Pollack, professor of music at the University of Houston and author of an award-winning biography of George Gershwin; moderated by Paul Laird, professor emeritus of musicology at the University of Kansas and a noted musical theater scholar.

Meet at the reception (outside the auditorium) - I will have a small sign that says "Meetup Group."

We can walk over to a restaurant for a light bite after the program - the Plaza has many and there are several on Main St near the library.
