Solar Outdoors

Join us for our General Membership meeting to see what we are all about. You do not need to be a member to attend the meeting.

This meeting is held the last Tuesday of each month (except for June (our annual picnic is held instead) and December (our holiday party is held instead).

Our general membership meeting is followed by a different and exciting program or presentation each month, beginning around 7:30 PM.

Join us for a presentation by Solar Outdoors' Member, Anne Kuzma as she presents her adventures to National Parks out West and the Havasupai Reservation.

Interested in a nice weekend out in the woods? Maybe you want to try out some new gear or just get in shape for a bigger hike later in the year. Why not join us in backpacking the Fife Lake Loop?

The Fife Lake Loop is one of Michigan’s “triple crown” of backpacking loops. It features areas of beautiful forested trails and some amazing views of the mighty Manistee river. This trail is about 22 miles and is split fairly equally at around 11 miles per day.

We will meet at the Old US 131 State Forest Campground on Friday June 12 at 9 am. You can optionally camp here Thursday night, June 11.

Friday, we will hike North to Spring Lake State Forest Campground. We will spend Friday night here at the campground.
Saturday, we will complete the loop back to US 131 CG.
This trip requires you to have backpacking experience and provide all of your own gear and food requirements.
Cost to join us for this trip is $30 if you sign up here on Meetup or $25 if you pay via check or cash directly to Host. This cost will cover the campsite(s) for Friday night only. All left over money goes directly to the club to help with operating costs.
Solar Outdoors is a social club whose members are volunteers and not professional guides. Any gear or food requirements will not be provided by the club or the volunteer unless otherwise stated in the event description.
You are responsible for doing your own research to determine if you have the physical and gear requirements to safely participate in the activity.
Waiver of Liability
By signing up for and participating in this event, or any other Solar Outdoors’s event you are acknowledging that you are aware and have made your guests aware of the risks, dangers, and hazards associated with this activity and freely accept all such risks, dangers, and hazards, and fully assume responsibility for your own safety, and further agree to release and discharge the organizers of this event from and against any and all liability arising from you and your guest’s participation in the group activities.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to be a member to attend. Come and have fun with old friends and new! This is a great way to check out the club.

Bring your kayak or your hiking boots and join club members for outdoor activities.

If you have some outdoor camping type games and want to bring them along, that would also be fun.

Bring your own food and drink for lunch while we socialize at picnic tables or bring your own comfortable chairs. Unfortunately there is not a grill at this shelter.

Note that this is on Michigan State Park property so a Michigan Park Pass is required.
There is NO PARKING right by the shelter! Drop off only! Look for signs for "Solar Parking".

Do you have old gear and too much gear and want to put it out and offer it for sale? This is the time to do so! Please note - you are responsible for the items you put out for sale.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PICNIC TAKES THE PLACE OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING FOR JUNE. THERE WILL NOT BE A MEETING ON THE LAST TUESDAY OF JUNE.**
