Manual Machining Part 1 - lathe - Let's build a scribe!
Details
Join our hands on introductory machining class where we will jump right into your first project. Building a scribe!
This is part 1 on the Lathe only
This section will cover turning the diameters and drilling the end hole. We will also try to make the scribe point if we have time. Part 2 will cover the milling operations.
In this class you’ll gain hands on experience with many practical manual machining skills such as:
- Lathe safety
- Lathe setup
- Indicating a part
- Supporting a workpiece with the tailstock
- Turning, drilling and parting on a lathe
- Cutting a taper
- Feedrates and how to optimize surface finish
No prior machining experience is necessary for this class. Please wear appropriate clothing which is not loose fitting and does not have excess fabric that could get caught in a rotating machine, close toed shoes, and bring any hair ties or hats you might need to keep your hair out of the machines. We have safety glasses available to borrow or you can bring your own.
Due to the small space in the machining area and the time required to complete the project this class can only accommodate 4 people.
Materials and tooling will be provided.
I will do my best to send a reminder a couple of days before the event. If you are on the list and something comes up that's fine, but please make sure you update your status to "not going" so that anyone on the waitlist is given an opportunity to attend. Thanks!
