Machining Skills Part 1 - 4-jaws and micrometers

In this class we'll dive into some more nuanced lathe and machining skills. Dialing parts in on the 4-jaw lathe chuck, and measuring diameters and parts in general using a micrometer.

We'll cover the basics of these two skills and talk about how to apply them to projects you might have. If you have a workpiece you need to practice with you're welcome to bring it in, (check equipment sizing below).

Lathe: 4" 4jaw chuck
Micrometers: 1" (digital), 2" (analog), and 3" (analog)

This class will be entirely in the SSD metal shop. You'll each have the opportunity to get your hands on the machines and tools. I will provide sample workpieces so we don't have to spend so much time cutting and can focus on workholding and measuring.

Please wear appropriate clothing which is not loose fitting and does not have excess fabric that could get caught in a rotating machine, close toed shoes, and bring any hair ties or hats you might need to keep your hair out of the machines. We have safety glasses available to borrow or you can bring your own.
