Alanis Morisette's "Jagged Little Pill" Play
Details
WE'RE GETTING OUR CULTURE ON! Let's go to this award winning production Jagged Little Pill @ my favorite local theater, The Chance. It is owned by an ally whose mother is also a member of SMWSLT! I have seen many plays there before and have found that they particularly excel in musicals!
TICKETS:
We have 20 reserved seats. If you want to sit with us, CLICK HERE to buy your ticket or grab your member ticket through Lesbian Getaways.
If they are sold out on the LG site, you can still go directly through the box office and say you are with Jody's meetup group to see if you can still get the group 30% discount. Don't pay attention to the RSVP count here on meetup to determine whether there are tickets left with our group because some people may have signed up and are coming separately with friends.
Box office: (888) 455-4212
We will meet in the lobby at 2:45, enjoy the play together and then, for those that are up for more, enjoy dinner afterwards.
You can always go on another day if this date does not work for you. Pride Night is the night before.
CHANCE BOX OFFICE TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR ANOTHER SHOW
I highly recommend becoming a member of the theater for $15-20/month which gets you into the season. Besides being a good deal, it helps them get their grant funding.

Jagged Little Pill reimagines Alanis Morissette’s iconic 1995 album into a contemporary musical that delves into the complexities of a seemingly perfect suburban family. Set in the affluent town of Connecticut, the story centers on Mary Jane Healy, a mother grappling with past traumas and addiction, while balancing her family as they confront issues including sexual assault, gender identity, and societal expectations. Through powerful performances and Morissette’s evocative music that defined a generation, this award winning musical weaves together themes of family, healing, and empowerment. It’s a fearless, exhilarating celebration of hope, self-discovery, and the messy beauty of being human.
Please be aware: Jagged Little Pill includes intense themes, scenes, events, and discussions that may be unsettling to some viewers.
“Morissette’s acoustic outing for her smash-hit album’s anniversary proves these songs are as lacerating as ever.”
The Guardian
“fully in focus: clear in its priorities, rich in character, sincere without syrup, rousing and real… it certainly is original.”
The New York Times
Just FYI
The 1995 Jagged Little Pill album is highly autobiographical, written in real-time based on Alanis Morissette's journals, personal pain, and feelings of betrayal. However, the Broadway musical of the same name is not a biography; it uses her songs to tell a fictional story about a dysfunctional Connecticut family.

Real-time Writing: Most of the album was written rapidly, often one song a day based on immediate feelings.
Journal Entries: Songs like "Hand in My Pocket" and "You Oughta Know" were directly inspired by personal journal entries.
**The "Human Condition": **
Morissette described the album as an exploration of her personal vulnerability, rage, and betrayal at the time.

Fictional Story: The musical focuses on the Healy family, covering topics like addiction, sexual assault, and race, which were not directly part of Morissette’s own life story.
