Uphill to Brean Down 8 mile river and beach walk [with potential 3 bonus miles!]

**8 miles out to Brean and back. We may take a 1 hour (ish) leisurely break at the National Trust cafe. [This will allow any super keen members to undertake a quick bonus 2.8 miles to the end of Brean Down - before rejoining those who have opted for a more relaxed approach... *this is subject to any volunteers and certainly not compulsory... we may have zero volunteers! ] **

**Meeting Point **– Meet by 10:15 for a 10:30 start, In Uphill opposite the Dophin public house.

**Parking: There **is sadly no single car park in Uphill so please allow plenty of time to park up. There are limited spaces opposite the pub, and for parking around the boatyard, as well along Uphill Way, Links Road, and Thornbury Road.

Thw walk: We will set off directly from the Uphill Boatyard and will join the Brean Down Way. This initial leg takes you along a flatpath that hugs the tidal banks of the River Axe, offering open views across the quiet marshlands of the Bleadon Levels. You will follow this scenic riverside trail until you reach the Brean Cross Sluice, where you will cross over the river safely while passing the massive driftwood structure known as the Great Bird Screen

Once across the sluice, we will continue following the seasonal path as it skirts the edge of the River Axe, tracking the water as it curves toward the coast with views of a water treatment facility... all the best virews. It will eventually lead you directly to the National Trust café situated at the very base of the dramatic Brean Down headland. *If you have the energy, you can tackle the steep steps here to walk the ridge, or do the bonus walk or simply stop for a quick rest by the dunes and enjoy a lunch stop

For the return leg, you will step straight onto the wide, flat sands of Brean Beach. Walking with the Bristol Channel on your right, brfore moving inland and passing a myriad of caravans as you head back toward Uphill. A short, steep climb brings you to the summit, where you can explore the historic, roofless ruins of the Old Church of St. Nicholas and take in the panoramic views North Somersets Premier seaside resort before a return to one of Uphill's pubs for a swift half
