Approximately 10 mile hike - Bear Valley Trailhead to Point Persistence Rock (Kelham Beach). We're going to explore the trail conditions after our recent storms (there may be downed trees and trail debris). Sunday's weather is forecast to be a mixture of marine layer (early) and partial sun with mild winds. Temperatures will be around 60 degrees. The Phillip Burton Wilderness is "greening up" and there will be plenty of water in the creeks.

We will depart the Bear Valley Trailhead promptly at 9:40 AM. This is an "out and back" hike, and we will have lunch at the giant eucalyptus tree that marks the head of the Kelham Beach Trail. Kelham Beach Trail is still closed from the landslide last winter that wiped out a center section. We will take the Bear Valley Trail to the Coast Trail (4 miles) and proceed north on the Coast Trail (1 mile) before stopping for lunch.

Bring plenty of water, a lunch if you wish, and layers as it will be cooler under the forest canopy in Bear Valley. A camera and binoculars are also recommended. Our hiking pace will be adjusted to the abilities of the group. Overall elevation gain is approximately 800 feet.

This is one of the shorter Point Reyes hikes that I host. Let's kick-off our 2026 hiking season together this weekend!
