FLASH HIKE - Bear Valley Trailhead at Point Reyes National Seashore.

This approximately 12-mile hike will depart promptly at 9:40 AM. We will ascend the Mt. Wittenberg Trail (1,200 feet) to the Sky Trail, and traverse that to the Marin Coast (6.5 miles). Then we will head north on the Coast Trail to the giant eucalyptus that marks the Kelham Beach Trailhead (.5 mile) where we'll have lunch. The Kelham Beach Trail is still missing a section because of a landslide that happened two years ago, so access to Kelham Beach is limited.

After lunch, we will return south on the Coast Trail to the Bear Valley Trail (1 mile) and hike Bear Valley back to the trailhead parking lot (4.1 miles). Total elevation gain is around 1,800 feet with much of it happening early (within the first two miles) on the Mt. Wittenberg Trail.

Bring plenty of water, a lunch if you wish, and wear sturdy hiking shoes. This is one of my favorite hikes...and the Sky Trail is always beautiful as it follows the ridgeline to the coast. If the marine layer allows, there are some spectacular vistas of Limantour Beach, Drake's Estero and Point Reyes. There are presently a few trees down across the trails...requiring a little scrambling at times.

Binoculars and a camera are suggested! Layers are recommended as this Saturday looks as if it will be partly cloudy with temperatures approaching the low 60's (offering very comfortable hiking weather).
