Breaking Free from the Anxious/Avoidant Trap

Details

Have you ever been drawn so deeply to someone, yet felt them slipping away as you got closer? This pattern, known as the Anxious-Avoidant trap, happens when one person craves closeness while the other instinctively creates distance. The result is a cycle that can feel magnetic yet destabilizing, leaving both people feeling unseen and disconnected.

We will explore how this dynamic shows up in dating and relationships, why it is so common, and what it takes to move toward a healthier balance.

I will start with a simple overview of the anxious and avoidant attachment styles and how they interact, then we will open the circle for conversation.

Together we will share stories, reflect on how this dynamic has played out in our own experiences, and uncover ways to build relationships that feel safe, steady, and connected.

This is not about blaming or labeling. It is about understanding the patterns that keep us stuck and learning how to choose something better for ourselves in the future.

WHEN? Saturday Sept 20, 10am-1130am

WHERE? Cheesman Park (more details below)

WHAT TO BRING? You will want to bring a blanket, yoga mat, or chair (we will be sitting on the ground). You may also want to bring your favorite drink and some sunscreen. We may or may not be in shade.

FORMAT (approximate)

  • 10:20 Topic Spark - A short introduction to the day’s theme with relatable examples to spark ideas and connection.
  • 10:30 Conversation Circle - An open space to share stories, listen deeply, and reflect together with no pressure to speak.
  • 11:25 Closing Round - A final moment for anyone to share a takeaway or piece of gratitude before we wrap up.

ADDITIONAL INFO

This is not a dating event.

It is a conscious space for singles who want more than small talk. We come together to share openly, learn from each other’s experiences, and grow into the kind of partners we want to be.

If you can't attend, no sweat, we just ask that you keep your RSVP current!
