Olathe Rec Center
Details
Exercise comes with many benefits and it can be enjoyable, especially in good company. It increases energy and endurance, reduces stress, wards off illness and just maintains good health.
Why the ORC? The ORC has a convenient, 1-mile outdoor track surrounding it. Also an indoor track. So indoors when it's below 50, rainy or above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Outdoors when it's not. If the roads are slick or it's snowing or threatening snow, check here for cancellations by 10 AM the day of before heading out.

Meet at the building's front entrance (outside) under the covered walk if 50-80 degrees and not rainy or in the lobby area (inside) if the opposite. If arrive 5+ minutes late, meet us on the outdoor path or indoor track per the plan stated above.
The indoors bit via the ORC is $12 (everyone pays their own entry fee for this if we go indoors) per visit for non-Olathe residents/$10 for residents. I can speak to it being a great facility that is worthwhile when indoors is preferable.
We could pursue at least 15 min walking warm ups and cool downs together. Exercise more individually between that (again, whatever that means for you, at your own level: machines, weights, jog, continue walking, shoot hoops, etc.) or together as you find someone to do it with. I'm all for fun exercise too so maybe we'll get creative.
Aiming for roughly a 1.5 hour stay just 1 x monthly. 12 PM start so people can get eating out of the way beforehand, sleep in as they like/need and be more energized/available for it. It also avoids prime time for other events in the morning. Stay shorter/longer, do more/less as you like, but that's the primary meetup focus.
Discuss your efforts before/between meets on the group Discord (ask at the meetings if not already on that).
Use these monthly meets as a motivator to keep up on your personal routine outside of it. More events, like hiking and biking can always be plotted on top of this.
5Ks: Want to use this to build up to a charitable 5K to up your health, get toned/fit even more? Ask after it at the meets (or on this group's Discord group). I have one plotted for May already and would love to do that and other fun, calorie-burning activities with a group in 2026.
