SCHEDULING ROUTINE: Date is not confirmed in full until 5 days out from the listed date to better predict and avoid bad weather/play conditions. The courses selected will vary between those on the west and south side of the greater KCKS metro: Lakeside, Prairie Center, Heritage, Gardner, Big Bull Creek, Shawnee Mission and Black Hoof parks.
HOW FIND US ONCE THERE: I will be wearing a thick, black bracelet with rainbow-colored highlights on it. I will also be carrying a red disc golf bag with a bright orange hand towel hanging from it.
CANCELLATIONS: If weather changes and gets chilly/super hot (below 55 or above 95 degrees Fahrenheit as the high), really windy or looks rainy I will cancel by 8 PM the night before.
FREQUENCY: For those interested in regular disc golf in cool company, the aim is to have these from weekly to every other week. Join as you can, of course.
WHAT TO EXPECT/BRING: I plan to play all 18 holes, but feel free to go as long as you like. You don't have to throw discs if just want to hike and be social. You can just hike the course with us as we play. That said, rules will be taught as needed. All levels are welcome, including brand new players. It's not about being highly competitive, just enjoying nature, being social and physically active for the many benefits that come with that.
A few extra discs will be provided, but if we get more than 4 (besides the organizer), consider dropping by a local disc golf store and ask for a beginner driver, mid-range and putter. You can get by with just a driver and putter to spend 35 or less before tax, 50 or less if all 3. Just avoid the most expensive ones and ask for lower end but still durable plastic/not the cheapest.
The listed duration is for the hiking/golfing, but we can picnic back at the parking lot area after 18 holes or grab a bite (if there's decent nearby) afterward as desired. Bring a folding lawn chair as a more comfortable back up option.
SUN SAFETY: Don't regret it, bring your sunscreen! I highly recommend the spray on kind as it's so much better. Just throw it on your car and leave it.
