What we’re about
We're a group of folks 50 & over who do moderate hikes, mostly in the South Bay on Saturday Mornings and alternating Wednesdays, 6-9 miles max at a moderate pace. For this group it's more about the community, camaraderie and journey than the destination, meet new friends who want to hike, and then go out to lunch after. Sort of like going to party where you get some exercise.
Disclaimer: I'm doing this because I like hiking and meeting such wonderful people. We're all grownups at this point and you're responsible for your health and safety. Hiking and changing weather and trail conditions can be dangerous. By signing up for these events, you agree to release South Bay 50+ Social Hikers and especially me and any other organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity. If you don't agree to these terms, DO NOT join this meetup event. You are responsible for yourself. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking shoes, gear, water and a sense of humor.

Sanborn Park w/ Mandala (replacement for Tarwater)
Sanborn County Park, 16055 Sanborn Rd, Saratoga, CA, USNote: Those who were confirmed for the Tarwater hike will have priority for attending this hike. I will manually move people to the going list accordingly.
This park has some beautiful hiking trails, in fact 6.7 miles of them and a sweat inducing 1550' feet of elevation gain. Not a good hike for beginners! We will start out by heading for Walden Pond (not to be confused with on Golden Pond as it does not contain a single Fonda, unless you count the slime covered salamander that bears a striking resemblance to Jane Fonda), then hike the serene trails in the North end of the park, before rejoining the San Andreas Trail for a grueling march up to the Sanborn trail, that will have you praying for mercy to your deity of choice. But then its almost all downhill back to your car.
Parking is $6. Pay at the entrance and then immediately turn right into the first parking lot. If its full there are several more lots a short hike away.
There are restrooms at the parking area.
Carpooling, as always encouraged.:

What food do 1.5 billion people eat every day that some unfortunate souls in our hiking group have not yet sampled? Why that would be Indian food, of course. Fortunately, we don't have to fly for 16 hours to get some because Mandala Indian Cuisine at 14510 Big Basin Way, in Saratoga will be waiting for us. Yelp reviewers say the Butter Chicken is to die for. Check out their menu for other less fatal, but also delicious, feasts and dozens of vegetarian options.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO MULTIPLY YOUR BILL BY 1.3 (FOR TAX AND TIP) AND TRY TO BRING CASH.
The IOPQ this week will be: At your funeral what would you like people to say about you?
ATTENDANCE: If you are signed up for a hike, or on the waitlist, please remove yourself to the "not going " list as soon as you become unsure about attending, so another wait lister can have adequate notice that they are going. Also, it is not okay to just show up to a hike you are not listed as "going" to. Hikers who violate these policies will have that information noted on their permanent record, and their parents may be notified.
DO NOT ATTEND if you're experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, have a compromised immune system, or if you've been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19.
LIABILITY WAIVER By joining this group for any event, you hereby release its organizers, hosts, and participants from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action that you now have, or may have in the future, for illness, injuries, damages, death and/or economic loss of any kind or nature, arising in whole or in part out of the activities, advice, or information contained herein.
