About us
We're a group of folks 50 & over who do moderate hikes, mostly in the South Bay on Saturday Mornings and alternating Wednesdays, 6-9 miles max at a moderate pace. For this group it's more about the community, camaraderie and journey than the destination, meet new friends who want to hike, and then go out to lunch after. Sort of like going to party where you get some exercise.
Disclaimer: I'm doing this because I like hiking and meeting such wonderful people. We're all grownups at this point and you're responsible for your health and safety. Hiking and changing weather and trail conditions can be dangerous. By signing up for these events, you agree to release South Bay 50+ Social Hikers and especially me and any other organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity. If you don't agree to these terms, DO NOT join this meetup event. You are responsible for yourself. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking shoes, gear, water and a sense of humor.

Santa Cruz Bluffs and Beaches w/ Abbot Square
Wilder Ranch Day Use Parking, 1842-1826 Coast Rd, Santa Cruz, CA, USLet's pretend we still have jobs, make up an excuse to call in sick, and head to Santa Cruz on this perfect beach day. This "beaches and bluffs" hike will cover about 7.7 miles and a very relaxed 400' of elevation gain. So easy you can leave the antiperspirant at home.
Mostly unshaded so don't forget those hats and sunscreen. Poison Oak and tick precautions apply.
There is free parking if you park on the side of Highway 1, or cash in some of your Bitcoin holdings and pay $6 at the lot. Or, if you're an old geezer & in possession of a Golden Bear pass, you can park for free!
There are restrooms at the parking lot.
As always , carpooling recommended:

After the hike let's reconvene at Abbot Square Market: 725 Front St. in downtown Santa Cruz. 7 very diverse restaurants share a large outdoor dining area. They even have Goat Cheese Ice Cream!
The IOPQ this week will be: What is you're favorite dessert?
ATTENDANCE: If you are signed up for a hike, or on the waitlist, please remove yourself to the "not going " list as soon as you become unsure about attending, so another waitlister can have adequate notice that they are going. Also, it is not okay to just show up to a hike you are not listed as "going" to. Hikers who violate these policies will have that information noted on their permanent record, and their parents may be notified.

Once you confirm that you have secured a spot with second harvest, comment on the event & I will add you to the going list.
I have done this several times & it feels like a very good use of my volunteer time. Unlike other places I have volunteered at, I am usefully employed the entire time. They also play music which helps the time fly by LOL. I'm open to suggestions for lunch places after as well, otherwise we will likely end up at iJava because it is so convenient (easily walkable), they have outdoor seating, the food is pretty good & they let us pay separately.
Be sure to dress warmly as it is quite chilly inside the warehouse. I especially like to wear wool socks so my feet don't get cold on the concrete floor.
We will meet out front at 8:45 but if you come once we've gone in use the rightmost entrance. Note that if you come in more than a few minutes late you will not be allowed to participate so try to be early.
