Coyote Lake-Mendoza Ranch w/Mama Mia's
Details
The recent dry weather should mean that the sometimes muddy, cow-dung filed trails here will be nice and dry. Coyote , Mendoza, Mummy, Gaviota and Coyote Ridge trails, form a figure 8 loop hike of 8.3 miles and approx. 1200’ elevation gain. Mostly rolling hills with one fairly steep ascent in the first part. Recent reviewers report sightings of wild pigs, turkeys, deer, an occasional snake and very friendly cows. And Mummies! So many Mummies they named the best trail after them. And great views of Coyote Lake and the Gilroy Skyline. A lot of unshaded trail, so don't forget sunscreen, hats, and water.
There are restrooms at the parking lot.
Directions From 101 in Gilroy, take the Leavesley Rd (east) 2 miles to New Avenue. Go north on New Avenue a half mile to Roop Road. Go 3 miles east on Roop Road to the Mendoza Ranch entrance. Turn left at 4514 Roop Rd into the parking lot. As always carpooling recommended:
