South Bay Art

Rockaway is my favorite beach to paint at. There's always parking, the beach is close to the lot, there's a restroom and a lot of great options for lunch after walking distance.

There are restrooms and free parking. Be sure to park in the South Parking lot past the Fairfield Inn. I dropped a map in the images section below.

Lunch (optional): Let's grab lunch after at Breakers. It's walking distance from where we're painting.

Additional Directions:
From Highway 1 - Turn West (Towards the Ocean) onto Rockaway Beach Ave. Take the first left on Old County Road (south) in front of the Fairfield Inn. Continue south on the narrow Old County Road past the Holiday Inn Express. You should see the parking lot straight ahead. We'll be visible on the beach from the parking lot.

Parking:
I dropped the pin at the beach lot, but there is also parking at Nick's Seafood restaurant where I'm planning on grabbing lunch after the meetup. They have the best crab cakes!

What to bring:
• Art Supplies - Bring all of your own art supplies for whatever medium you are using e.g. paints, surfaces, brushes, pencils and cleaning supplies. For any beginners who don't know how to start or have questions feel free to post in the comments section or DM me through meetup.com's message service.
• Easels - If you're painting please bring your easel. I do have an extra French Easel, a Gorilla Painter Pochade Box and tripods that I'm happy to lend for the day. Just let me know in the comments and I'll throw them into the car.
• Outdoor wear - We will be outdoors for most of 3 hours so bring layers, hats, sunscreen.
• Snacks/food - Most of the locations we paint at don't have food/drinks so bring whatever food/drinks you require.
• Most of the places we paint at have picnic tables or benches, but if you need to sit when you art, be sure to bring something to sit on just in case.
• A good test to ensure you have everything you need is to set up to paint in your own yard for 2-3 hours. If you bring everything it takes to create art in your yard then you'll have everything you need to paint with us :)

Extra info:
• We usually paint in public places. People outside of the group will generally come up and see what you're doing. Usually they just compliment and walk by and sometimes they'll stop and chat a bit. For me this took a little getting used to, but I really enjoy it now and it's become one my favorite things about painting and sketching outdoors. Please don't scare anyone away :)
• Observe all signs. Especially the "keep off" ones.
• Stay on paths, but do not block them.
• Empty any painting fluids off-site including dirty water color water.
• Take your garbage with you.

If you haven't done life drawing or painting before it's exactly what it sounds like.

A model will pose for most of three hours and during this time we will capture their likeness as best as we can using our preferred medium e.g. paint, pastels, charcoal, etc.

The venue has chairs, tables, drawing ponies, table easels, and h-frame easels (first come first serve), but you will need to bring any other art supplies and take them with you when you leave.

Another note is that we'll be indoors so for the oil painters only bring in oderless mineral spirits. No Liquin or turpentine please.

Also, this event is not instructor led or a workshop. The fee is for the model and the space rental.

You can pay cash at the event or Venmo, Zelle or Paypal me at kmacinto@gmail.com. Please put your name in the note if you pay electronically. The cost is $20.00. I will collect any outstanding fees at the first model break.

Space is limited so RSVP as soon as you can and if you're not able to make it, please update your RSVP so that someone from the waitlist can attend in your spot.
