SOUTH DOWNS WAY, BEACHY HEAD, CIRCULAR

Details

We meet for a 10.30 start at the bus stop at the YHA, down the hill from the Downs Golf Club, on the A259. BN20 8ES ///alone.soup.fetch There is a layby at the YHA for parking and if full there is a road almost opposite with unrestricted parking.

There are toilets at Beachy Head and a small cafe

A six and three quarter mile, very hilly walk with a total ascent of 968 ft. but no stiles. We walk up the road and turn left into the South Downs Way, where we carry on for a fairly short distance then turn right and cross the road to go down a bridleway, heading in a westerly direction. After about two miles we cross the road and head on up along the cliff towards Beachy Head, where we will stop for our lunch break, (don`t forget to bring a packed lunch). This is where we will see the most spectacular views of the walk and can look down to the beach to see the old lighthouse. After lunch, we walk North along the South Down Way which opens up a large vista of Eastbourne and eventually return to the YHA end of walk.

The walk is very hilly, but not muddy.

Acceptance Of Risk
By RSVPing to an event you agree to having had the opportunity to have read all the
following & to agree to abide by the guidelines. You accept that any activity such as walking
comes with its own dangers & challenges and on that basis you accept responsibility for your
own health & safety & will not compromise that of others. You agree that the Organisers and
walk leader can be in no way held responsible for any injury incurred to you, your guests, or
your or their dogs, in the course of the walk.
Our Ethos
We are an inclusive social hiking group with walkers of all abilities, fitness levels, and health
statuses, whose walks are accessible by public transport.
We walk at an inclusive but moderate pace & like to stay together. Should we concertina, we
will regather, allowing people to get their breath back before moving on, particularly on the
climbs.
Please treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself.
There is ONE walk leader per walk to avoid confusion.
We run group walks, we start together, walk together, lunch together & finish together.
Cancellations & Delays
If you can't attend an event you have signed up for, please change your RSVP status to ‘Not
Going’ as soon as possible, so no-one waits unnecessarily for you.
If you are going to be late, please message. Some Walk Leaders will provide their phone
number if requested as Meetup messages can be delayed.
Not changing your RSVP status or informing the walk leader may result in your being
removed from the group.

Leaving A Walk
If you have to leave a walk early, even for a short period, ensure the Walk Leader knows and
has acknowledged that.
Becoming Ill Or Injured
If you become ill or injured during a hike, kindly inform the walk leader, or ask another walker
to do so for you.
Kit & Provisions
Be appropriately clothed, booted, equipped & prepared for emergencies and have sufficient
& appropriate drinks, food & snacks with you.
Pet Parents & Four Legged Members
Dogs are important members of our group and always very welcome, however on a lead
around livestock please, for everyone's benefit.
Weather
The weather forecast can change, so keep an eye on Event Chat and messages in case the
weather prompts a cancellation.
