South Mississippi Mushroom Growing & Cultivation Group

This group is for people interested in growing edible and medicinal mushrooms at home, from complete beginners to experienced growers.
The focus is practical, educational, and hands-on:
Understanding mushroom biology and life cycles
Clean technique and contamination control
Simple, small-scale growing methods that actually work
Learning through discussion, demonstration, and shared experience
This is not a psychedelic group, a shortcut group, or a sales pitch. The goal is learning, curiosity, and doing things the right way.
I started this group because I’ve grown mushrooms before, stepped away for a while, and want to get back into edible and medicinal cultivation with others who enjoy learning how things work. I also have some interesting historical mushroom growing kits and equipment from the late 1980s that make for great discussion, even if they’re more educational than practical.
Most meetings are discussion-based with occasional show-and-tell. Some sessions may be more hands-on later once the group is established.
Meetings are held in both Columbia and Hattiesburg to make attendance easier for people across South Mississippi. Dates are posted 7–10 days in advance to accommodate rotating work schedules.
