Details

Come and enjoy a walk to and through Farrell's Marsh, a wildlife natural area that abutts Fort Lewis to the east, and lies entirely within the town of Steilacoom. We start at the Town of Steilacoom Community Center anytime from 8:30AM until 11:30AM**.** Water and restrooms are available at the Center until 11:30, when it closes.

Shady dirt trails range throughout the marsh by bogs and ponds with native plants, shrubs and trees. Many birds and small creatures may be visible. Occasional benches provide a place to sit and watch.

Pay attention to our trail markings in the marsh, down low at intersections or you may wander in the area longer than you intend. The 5K walk leaves the marsh and returns to the Center through some neighborhoods.

The 10K continues downhill to explore trails south of the area and returns gradually uphill to the Center.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy this area. A group walk of the 5K will start at 9am from the Community Center, led by Buffy Wittenberg.

As it is August, trails should be dry, although there are a few slightly muddy areas. If you usually use a stick, there are some rooted areas within the marsh where a stick may be useful for you. Please bring a hat, carry water and remember sunscreen for sunny streets

The Center is the only restroom for the 5K. The 10K does go by a park with a portable toilet.

For those that stamp record books, sticker stamps are available at the start. We ask for a donation of $4 for all walkers. First time guests and children under 12 walk for free. All participants will receive directions and map. Only the marsh is marked.

Jogging strollers may have difficulty in many narrow areas of the marsh. It is not accessible for wheelchairs.
