Fort Steilacoom 6K & 10k Walk

We'll walk through Fort Steilacoom Park, Western State Hospital grounds and past historic old Fort Steilacoom buildings, used by the army from 1849 - 1868. Fort Steilacoom Park was once a large farm where crops were grown and animals raised for food for Western State Hospital. We circle Lake Waughop and pass a large cemetery used by the hospital in the past.
AVA walk Y1996. Dogs on leash with cleanup are fine. This route is rated 1B for flat with some uneven footing.
Everyone must register before the walk. This walk is hosted by the Evergreen Wanderers Volkssport Club which has not increased their YRE fees. IVV participants will pay $3.00 and other walkers have a suggested donation of $3.00. Donations to help pay for meetup costs and walk box information are always appreciated.
Directions: From I-5 Exit 129 (So. 72nd St). Southbound – Get in right lane on off-ramp following So. 74th St Westbound. Turn right onto So. 74th St. and follow it for 2.1 miles. After crossing Lakewood Dr. W., So. 74th becomes Custer Rd W. Follow Custer for 1.3 miles merging into right lane. Stay in right lane as it turns right onto 88th St W. After the first traffic signal 88th merges into Steilacoom Blvd. SW. Follow Steilacoom Blvd. for 2 miles to Sentinel/Far West Dr SW. Chevron Station is on the right. Park in a stall away from the station entrance if possible. Northbound – Get in left lane at end of off-ramp and turn left onto So. 72nd St. After crossing over I-5, So. 72nd St. becomes So.74th St. Follow directions above to start point.
