About us
Welcome to the South Valley Guitar Orchestra Meetup! This new guitar orchestra was created in February 2026 to practice and perform classical guitar ensemble pieces. The orchestra, led by is led by Maestro Sergio Frias Corona, is open to every player of all experience, all skill levels, all ages, and all genders from beginners to virtuosos. We practice weekly from 3-4:30 pm. at one of the centrally located Salt Lake County Public Libraries convenient to I-15, I-215, and I-80. It's free to participate.
Sergio Frías Corona is a classical guitarist, performer, and educator with an active international career. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico and a Master’s degree in Mexican Concert Music from the same institution, where he later served as Deputy Director of the Conservatory, Director of the International Guitar Festival, and Head of the Guitar Department. He has studied at the Berklee School of Music and is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Guitar Performance at Utah State University, where he teaches in the guitar department and coordinates the Classical Guitar Weekend, featuring masterclasses, competitions, and concerts. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed throughout the United States, Mexico, and Latin America, and his discography includes Cachumbambé, a chamber album for guitar and flute. His playing is often described as combining refined technique with expressive depth, emphasizing clarity, tone color, and musical storytelling. His students have earned prizes at national and international competitions.
