What we're about

South Broward Wheelers has been leading the way in road cycling for 31 years!!!!

We meet bright and early at 7:30 am every Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting). On Saturdays our ride starts are from different locations, venturing into new areas and exploring new routes. On Sundays, you can always find us at Lester's Diner on 136th Avenue in Sunrise.

There are also many weekday rides available, some in the mornings or even in the evenings (check out our ride schedules on website).

We always have several rides and groups at different levels, distances and speeds. With cycling comes socializing and we love adding special DESTINATION RIDES and special out of town CYCLING TOURS - keep a look out for them on our website calendar and Facebook.

If you just bought a new road bike, we have the ride for you. Our BEGINNER'S RIDE will educate you on how to ride safely on the road in a group setting. You will find our BEGINNER'S RIDE at Markham Park every second Saturday of the month at 7:30 am. As part of our BEGINNER'S RIDE, we will have a half hour of instruction followed by a 10-mile bike ride and only going as fast as the slowest rider.

SBW - Levee Ride

Markham Park

Our regular parking lot is closed, so we will meet that the lot by the main pavilion / shelter. One in the park go straight across the intersection, up and over over the little hill and the parking lot is on the left. See the pin on the map below.

IMPORTANT - It is hot out there !! Riders should ensure they have sufficient hydration and/or enough money to buy some drink at the fish camp. The least expensive beverage there (Powerade) costs $3.00. There are no water fountains. Come prepared.

No cars and no stop lights and the opportunity to see gators and buzzards will be aplenty. The ride will start from the same place as the road riders, but we will ride the levy north for ten miles to Atlantic Blvd. We will regroup, if anyone was dropped. We will then head west on the levy for another ten miles to the fish camp for a bathroom break. We will then head south and then east about eight miles, arriving back at the start for a total of about 28 miles.

This is a bumpy dirt road with rocks so plan accordingly. Please make sure your bike is in good condition because any mechanicals that cannot be fixed on the levy will require a walk of up to five miles to a pick up spot where a car can access the levy.
