What we’re about

The Southern Sierra Hiking Club features hiking activities all year round in local mountains and wilderness areas of Kern and Tulare Counties; featuring the Sequoia National Forest, Sequoia National Park, and the Giant Sequoia National Monument. We hike on trails, scramble, climb peaks, go cross country, snowshoe and backpack.  Other areas we hike include the Tehachapi and San Emigdio Mountains, the Los Padres and Angeles National Forests, AND, extended holiday adventures to popular multi-state destinations!

Beginners are welcome!

We now have a sister Meetup group Southern Sierra Conditioning Hikes, SSCH, with three levels of conditioning hikes presented at Hart Park east of Bakersfield.  Hart Park provides the bluffs needed for the extra strength training hills can provided compared to flat lands of west Bakersfield.  Check the schedule for Beginners, Intermediate (or Moderate), and Advanced.  The hikes are between 3 to 6 miles and completed in  1.5 to 2 hours.  Advanced Hikes can go as far as 7 or 8 miles. We have had great success and a lot of fun doing these roller coaster type hikes so we are in better shape for our day hikes and camping trips to the many beautiful, awe inspiring areas mentioned above.
