Saturday Dayhike in Sequoia Nat'l Park - Admiration Point and Middle Fork Trail

Leave Hodel's at 7 am to arrive at the Sequoia National Park Foothill Visitor Center at 8:30 am. After a brief stop, we drive to Crystal Cave Road to find the old Colony Mill trailhead. The hike from here to Admiration Point and the old ranger station is 5.5 miles round trip, with a loss/gain of about 1100'. This hike goes downhill first, then back uphill. Admiration Point overlooks Marble Falls on the Marble Fork Kaweah river.

Next we will drive to the Middle Fork trailhead past Hospital Rock and hike partway on the Middle Fork trail, crossing several streams along the way. The distance for this hike has not been determined, but maximum it might be 6 or 8 miles round trip.

A Park fee of $20 must be paid if no one in your vehicle has a Park Pass. (Tony has a pass). If you are interested in spending the night on the Middle Fork trail, please see the companion Meetup to this one - Middle Fork Trail Backpack.

This hike is all on trail, with the possible exception of Admiration Point itself, which we've never seen. The Middle Fork trail has stream crossings, which may require removing your footwear if you want to keep your feet dry, so you might want to bring some water shoes.
