About us
The South Philly Acoustic Jam provides a common gathering place for amateur musicians and vocalists. Our group is a dynamic adult learner community where amateur musicians build skills, learn from others and play any instrument at any skill level; and our vocalists share their talents with vocal execution and improvisational arts in a supportive group environment. We are not an open mic group - everyone can play, and anyone can sing.
We offer a friendly, no-judgment musical culture focused on building skills. We support ourselves and other participants in ways that promote group musicianship. This unique environment fosters musical growth, development, and the best conditions for adult learners to understand and appreciate music.
South Philly Jam in Community News: Queen Village QVNA Jam Article
We have an acoustic sound, and play classic rock, blues, soul, and folk songs from curated songbooks. We welcome acoustic 6 or 12-string guitar, ukulele, electric bass, harmonica, percussion instruments, cajon, keyboards, and fiddle. If your voice is your instrument, come and sing. We have microphones if you are comfortable using them.
What should you bring to the Jam? An instrument if you play, and a capo if you play guitar. We provide music stands, chairs, and songbooks.
Settlement Music School
The Mary Louise Curtis branch of Settlement Music School, located 416 Queen Street, Philadelphia PA 19147, hosts the Jam until the school closes for the summer. We meet on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 9pm in Field Hall.
Parking on the building grounds is free and ample.
Settlement School provides a professional music recital hall for our jam, music stands, and chairs. There is a $30 Annual special student fee paid to the Settlement School for all new and returning members. The student fees are paid at the front desk, not to the Jam.
We request an OPTIONAL $5 fee at each session to cover the costs of printing and other expenses. You are welcome to come and play regardless of whether you pay the weekly fee.
