Hike Centennial Trail from Schneider's Passage, 5 Miles, Pretty Flat and Paved

Details

UPDATE: I limited the attendance to 15 due to the limited parking available. I see that there are some people on the waitlist, so I'll raise the attendance to 20. However, we may need to park some cars at Isle a la Cache, across the street, and further west of our start point.

Parking is limited at Centennial Trail, also known as Schneider's Passage. If you cannot park, consider going further west on Romeo Road, also known as 135th Street, to the Isle a la Cache Nature Center (located on the south side of the street) and park there. It is a 0.3-mile walk back to the trailhead and is supposed to take about 7 minutes. If you need to park over there and time is short, call me at 815-412-5794 so we don't leave without you.

It will be dry, a little windy, mostly sunny, and in the low 80s on Tuesday, the 3rd. So, let's find some shade at Centennial Trail in Romeoville, across the street from Isle a la Cache Preserve, where this group has been before.

We'll hike approximately 5 miles out and back on the flat, fairly straight, paved Centennial Trail. Pretty easy but we may need to look out for some bicycles. Options will exist to go further, such as across the Des Plaines River on the I-355 bridge, or turn back early.

Here is a link to the Will County Forest Preserves that describes the trail: https://www.reconnectwithnature.org/preserves-trails/trails/centennial-trail

Navigating to this site can be a problem if you rely on GPS. The address is 600 E Romeo Rd but I ended up too far west at somebody's house. The Isle a la Cashe Museum is at 501 E Romeo Rd, Romeoville, IL 60446, which might be a better entry for your GPS. Remember the trail is a little bit east and on the other side of the street from the museum.

It will be a little hot and sunny so consider bringing water, sunscreen, a hat, and bug spray.
