Florida Grasshopper Sparrow Research and Conservation
Adrienne Doyle Fitzwilliam (FWC) will present on the research and on-the-ground conservation actions implemented to recover the endangered Florida grasshopper sparrow. The presentation will cover the history of decline and the research-informed management and recovery actions implemented, as well as the future outlook for the species.
About the speaker: Adrienne Doyle Fitzwilliam is an Assistant Research Scientist and the recovery lead for the Florida grasshopper sparrow (FGSP) at Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She has been involved with the FGSP Working Group since 2017 and co-authored the FGSP 5-Year Strategic Vision (2019) - a recovery implementation strategy. She is from Tampa, FL and received her M.S. at Arkansas Tech University in Fish and Wildlife in 2012. For her master’s research, Adrienne evaluated the habitat use and nesting success of Bell’s vireo and their ecological relationships with brown-headed cowbirds. Prior to working for the FWC, she spent two seasons in American Samoa banding for the Institute for Bird Populations, two seasons at Tall Timbers Research Station chasing down brown-headed nuthatches, and four summers in the heart of Denali National Park working at Camp Denali.
