Team Thursday: Little Garden, South Hill, Hangman Valley Loop

Details

Start Time: Meet at 7:45 for 8:00 AM rollout

Meeting Location/Address: Little Garden Café 2901 W Northwest Blvd Spokane, WA 99205

Distance: 33 miles

Pace: 12-14 MPH cruising speed on flats

Terrain: Paved, except for 1.2 miles of dirt through Highbridge Park (doable on a road bike); flattish, except for 2-mile slog to top of High Drive. Total elevation gain +/- 1900 ft.

Route Description: On this ride we will travel through 9 of the 28 distinct, official Spokane neighborhoods, in order: Audubon/Downriver; Emerson/Garfield; West Central; Peaceful Valley; Browne’s Addition (for about 20 feet); Latah/Hangman; Cliff-Cannon; Manito/Cannon Hill; and Comstock.

Then we leave the city limits behind at 57th and Perry (mile 9.9) and venture into the county and rural landscapes, bordering the northern reaches of the Palouse. We’ll descend from the Moran Prairie via Baltimore Road into the Hangman Valley and return to the southern tip of the city limits along Hangman Valley Road, amid trees, fields and large homes on 10-acre parcels.

We’ll ride along Highway 195 for a couple of miles into the nicknamed Vinegar Flats neighborhood (officially part of Latah/Hangman) and then back through the ‘hoods in reverse order. All in all, a ride that makes one appreciate living in Spokane.
