Sintra road bike ride - Saturday 26th July

Hi Bike Buds! 🚴

On Saturday 26th July #FollowTheCalves 🦵🏻 are going to Sintra for a 27km road ride.

Itinerary

• Train from Rossio station to Sintra station 09.01-09.41.
  But you can come from anywhere as long as you join us at Sintra station by 10.41 (N.B. its 'Sintra' station, not to be confused with 'Portela de Sintra').
• Cycle 27km Sintra loop
• Those who wish to go home take the train back (once every hour).
• Feel free to stay for lunch in Sintra.
• Trains back are every hour.

Buying train tickets

• Please note that you will be responsible for buying your own train ticket. The queues can be long at Rossio at this time of year.
• Tickets are ~€3 each way.

Bike hire

• We ride road and gravel bikes
• You can rent from a few places in Lisbon. We recommend Lisbon Bike Rentals as they have really good quality bikes and are opposite Cais Do Sodre station.
• You can also try Biclas for some cheaper options.
• We advise against electric bikes - they are too heavy to carry and go too slow on the flats.

What to bring

• Breathable clothes (we wear lycra, but that's not obligatory, just handy for pockets so you don't need to bring a bag)
• Snacks (nuts, protein balls, glucose etc. are small but helpful for tough stretches).
• Water - don't come without at least one full water bottle! We recommend 2.
• Helmet - Don't turn up without a helmet!!
• Sun screen - cycling tans / burns are not sexy.
• An appetite for some ice cream, an adventure and some fun!

FAQs:

• Do you have WhatsApp group? Yes, you can join the 'cycling' group here
• Do you require any special skills? Yes, you need to be able to cycle the specified distance, including hills, at a medium speed, with breaks.
• What happens if I get a puncture? We recommend bringing a spare inner tube and a multitool. Failing that, taxi to the nearest bike shop for a quick repair is the fall back option.
