Aug 31st - Luxury pool & 60k Bike Ride

Hi Bike Buds! 🚴

#FollowTheCalves 🦵🏻 are going to another swimming spot, the beautiful Arribas Sintra Hotel pool, which is the largest swimming pool in Europe! 100m of treated salt water with a view of the ocean <3 There are diving boards, sun beds, and clear water.

For those of us who are triathlon training, we'll swim for about an hour. However no serious swimming is required; you can also sunbathe if you prefer!

Itinerary
Sunday, 31st Aug, 2025:

• 09.01-09.41 train from Lisboa Rossio to Sintra
• Down hill pituresque ride from Sintra station to Hotel Arribas Sintra (11k)
• Swim for an hour or so
• Cycle a ~40k loop (~700m elevation)
• Cycle a ~20k commute back from Arribas Sintra Hotel to Sintra station (not yet mapped but there will be hills).

Cost

• ENTRY TO THE HOTEL POOL IS 29 EUR.
• There are free lockers enabling you to ride without carrying your bag (wahoo, no sweaty back!)
• We are also allowed to store our bikes there. Bring a lock if you have one.
• There is a restaurant (although not mega cheap, its a nice hotel!)

Bike hire

• We ride road and gravel bikes.
• If you need to hire, try Lisbon Bike Rentals or Biclas.
• We advise against electric bikes - they are too heavy to carry and go too slow on the flats.

Transport

• You are responsible for buying your own ticket. You can buy it from the ticket machines on the day (arrive early), or you can use the Navigante Pass (the 40 EUR one).
• Feel free to meet us at Sintra station or at the hotel if you have a car!

What to bring

• Breathable clothes (we wear lycra, but that's not obligatory, just handy for pockets)
• Snacks (nuts, protein balls, glucose etc. are small but helpful for tough stretches). There is a small cafe at the river.
• Do not come without water (preferably 2 bottles) and a helmet!
• Anything you want for swimming (swimming clothes towel, googles etc). Bikinis are allowed in this pool.
• An appetite for some ice cream, an adventure and some fun!

• Do you require any special skills? Yes, distances and elevation in invitation.
• What happens if I get a puncture? Bring a repair kit and a spare inner tube. Worst case: UberXL.
