Saturday 20th Sept 60k road bike ride: Arrábida

Hi Bike Buds! 🚴

#FollowTheCalves 🦵🏻 are heading to Setúbal / Arrábida for the day on Saturday!

Itinerary

• Train from Lisbon Roma Areeiro → Setubal 08:13-09.11 (You can also join this train en route at Entrecampos, Sete-Rios, Campolide...or drive and meet us at Setubal station).
• Cycle ~60km at ~1300m elevation around Setubal, the beaches and Parque Natural de Arrabida.
• Train Setubal --> Roma Areeiro (Time TBC depending on when we finish. Trains are ~every half hour).

Booking train tickets

• Please note that you will be responsible for buying your own train ticket. We advise arriving early on the day as the machines for this train can misbehave and the station can be difficult to navigate.
• Tickets are ~€5 each way.

Bike hire

• We ride road and gravel bikes
• You can rent from a few places in Lisbon. We recommend Lisbon Bike Rentals as they have really good quality bikes and are opposite Cais Do Sodre station.
• You can also try Biclas for some cheaper options.
• We advise against electric bikes - they are too heavy to carry and go too slow on the flats.

What to bring

• Breathable clothes (we wear lycra, but that's not obligatory, just handy for pockets so you don't need to bring a bag)
• Snacks (nuts, protein balls, glucose etc. are small but helpful for tough stretches)
• Do not come without water and a helmet!
• An appetite for some ice cream, an adventure and some fun!

• Do you require any special skills? Yes, see route description for fitness required.
• What happens if I get a puncture? We recommend bringing a spare inner tube and a multitool. Failing that, XL taxi to the nearest bike shop / home is the fall back option.
